Navratri and the IPL season: when Indian players install apps

Play in India is not evenly spread across the year. Navratri is a nine-night festival, so the play pattern across those days tends to be fragmented rather than concentrated. The monsoon months bring heavier rain across many Indian states, and play in those weeks tends to happen indoors and on wifi.

the IPL season (March to May) is the other window worth knowing about. The IPL is the closest thing India has to a shared national calendar, and app traffic around it is noticeably concentrated.

Game modes

• If a lobby shows a very short timer, that is usually a fast-format table with different rules from the standard variant.
• If the app asks for SMS read access on install, treat that request with caution and check whether the feature really needs it.
• A 13-card hand is the standard format, but the number of jokers and the meld rules differ between a points table and a pool table.

Installation walkthrough

1. The download route for this listing goes through the operator; the button above opens it.
2. If the install stalls, check whether unknown-source installs are enabled for the app you downloaded with.
3. Before confirming, scan the permission list for anything that does not match what the app does.
4. Create the account with your own details rather than a borrowed number.
5. Work out what you are willing to lose before the first game, and treat that as the hard ceiling.

Keeping yourself safe

If you are playing to recover money you have already lost, stop and take a break. No legitimate operator asks for your banking password or a transfer to a personal account. Treat any such request as fraud.
